Food For All Market
Can you believe it?!? Almost a month ago, our store has gone from closing it’s doors to opening back up to the community. It is the community, however, that really helped us to get back on our feet. This store has meant more to it’s owners, workers, customers and more than you can even fathom. The love that we feel here at Food For All Market is indescribable. We are forever grateful for those who came forward and helped us in our darkest hour.
For all of those who are wondering what on earth we are talking about, please see below for a rundown/snapshot of what had occurred over the past month:

*UPDATE*
We are currently at the halfway mark for the funding that is needed to keep Food For All open! We cannot thank everyone enough for your love and positive energy for the store!
If you would like to make a contribution please email the owner, Amy Kunkle, directly at Amy.Kunkle@comcast.net.
A retail store closing it’s doors seems to be the norm this day in age…excuse me…ESPECIALLY this day in age. Small businesses are suffering tremendously under a terrible economy with no recovery in sight. It’s bittersweet when the store you may have visited several times over is forced to close it’s doors, but there is a certain level of acceptance. With the announcement that Food For All Market, located in Mt. Airy, PA was closing it’s doors to the public this week; to put it frankly, the community did not accept it.
Food For All Market opened it’s doors in September 2010 to the Philadelphia community. The goal of the store was to provide healthy, made-from-scratch meals that were able to be enjoyed by all (get it…food for all?!). The owner and chef, Amy Kunkle, had her own experience in mind when opening her store. Her three children suffer from multiple food allergies, causing her to learn how to prepare allergy-friendly meals. She opened the market hoping that she could provide a safe-eating haven for those who had either a food allergy or followed a specialty diet.
Originally opening the store with two other partners, they all had a goal in mind. The three partners would all share the responsibilities of running the business.Unfortunately, two of the partners ultimately decided that co-owning the store wasn’t for them: Leaving Amy to juggle all aspects of the business by herself (not to mention her three children as well). With a few other unfortunate circumstances, Food For All found itself in the hole; forcing Amy’s hand in closing the store. The moment the email was sent out to her regulars notifying them of the closing, everything changed.
“What if we start a fundraiser?” “What if we found you investors?” Every single ‘what if’ possibility was brought to the table within an hour of the announcement. Even as this article is being written, the ultimate fate of the store has yet to be decided. One thing is for sure: The Mt. Airy community refuses to see this store close and is rallying together to do what they can to help Food For All Market out. In response to all of this, Amy Kunkle is overwhelmed with all of the love and support she has been receiving. This all goes to show that her store really did have a positive & profound impact on many, many people.
Ask yourself: When was the last time you witnessed such an event as this? That a community rallied together to prevent their favorite store from closing with such passion? When has a store meant so much to people that they are willing to fight to keep it alive? Everyone is remaining positive and taking everything, literally, day-by-day. One thing is for sure; this store has brought a sense of community to the Mt. Airy area.
